There are lots of ready made animal shaped burgers marketed at children. However these are highly processed and can be very unhealthy and full of things like excess salt. Rather than ban fun shaped food why not have a go at this recipe instead?
Ingredients
- 500g low fat pork mince
- 50g cornflakes
- 3 or 4 button mushrooms
- 1 egg
- 1 or 2 cloves of garlic
- 2-3 tsp of dried mixed herbs
- 1 tsp of dried dill
Method
- Crush the cornflakes into tiny crumbs. You can do this by putting the cornflakes in a zip-lock bag and crushing them with a rolling pin, by using a pestle and mortar, or by using a blender.
- Finely chop the mushrooms. Put all ingredients together and mix well.
- Divide the mixture into 16 and shape into sausages. Alternatively, shape into burgers by pressing into a cookie cutter with a spoon, or by rolling into a ball and gently squashing with a glass.
- The burgers do not have to be round – try pressing the mixture into star or dinosaur shaped cookie cutters!
- Put under a medium grill and heat, turning occasionally until cooked through and lightly golden.
